    Wings place 10 on B.C. team

    The Wings Gymnastics Club showed off its muscle, earning 10 spots on the provincial team following the zone 4 championships in Delta March 15.
    Laura Kean led the Cameron rec centre-based club onto this year's B.C. team with a third place in the Level 4 open all-around. Kean came third in the individual vault, balance beam and floor exercises.
    Jillian McCartney and Kimberly Yee also made the provincial team, finishing second and third respectively in the Level 3 open division.
    McCartney won the vault and was second on bars and on floor, while Yee was second on vault and third on bars, beam and floor. Bianca Rizzo also earned a spot on the provincial team at Level 3.
    Nikki Nummela qualified for the B.C. team in Level 3 novice with a fourth all-around finish. Nummela placed second on balance beam and third on vault.
    Hailey Massingham finished second on vault and third on bars and beam to also qualify for the B.C. team from the Level 2 open group.
    Angela Hutchinson-Lam was another B.C. qualifier from Wings at Level 2 novice. Hutchinson-Lam won beam and was third on vault and floor to finish second all-around in her category.
    Emma Crooks, Savanna Fogh and Raquel Slotten also qualified at the Level 2 tyro level. Crooks came second on floor exercises and fourth all-around. Fogh placed fourth on beam and finished fifth all-around. Slotten was runner-up on uneven bars and placed sixth all-around. Brienna Evans won the floor exercises.
    Meghan Heron won the individual balance beam and floor exercises to finish second all-around in Level 1 tyro. Heron also placed second on vault. Alora Jones won the vault in the Level 1 argo division.
    The B.C. championships will take place at the Langley Event Centre April 17 to 19.

    There were plenty of top-three results to spread around as members of the Wings Gymnastics Club hit the Carol Lenz Memorial Invitational competition earlier this month.
    Port Moody's Emma Crooks posted the third-best score on Level 2 tyro's floor event, while Kimberly Yee of Coquitlam was first on the beam and third all-around in Level 2 open. Placing first on vault in the same category was Port Moody's Hailey Massingham.
    In Level 3 open, Jillian McCartney of Port Moody registered the second-best result on vault, while the Wings team came in second.
    Laura Kean, also of Port Moody, secured top prize on both bars and beam, silver on vault and floor to pick up second all-around in Level 4 open. She was also recognized with the Beam choreography award for her self-choreographed routine.

    Wings gymnasts had some fine results at the recent Carol Lenz Memorial invitational meet in Surrey earlier this month.
    Laura Kean placed first on the uneven bars and balance beam and second all-around in the Level 4 open category. Kean was also a runner-up on vault and floor exercises, while also winning the beam choreography award for her original routine.
    Level 1 tyro Brienna Evans also earned a gold on vault and was a recipient of a floor choreography award for her routine developed by Krista Adamic. Evans also placed second on the beam and third on floor.
    Another apparatus winner was Kimberly Yee on the level 2 open beam. Yee went on to finish third all-around.
    Hailey Massingham also won gold on the vault in the level 2 open category.
    Wings did well in the level 3 open group, placing second overall in the team competition.
    Jillian McCartney placed second in the individual vault, and Carmen Saucier was third on floor exercises. Bianco Rizzo made the podium in three disciplines, finishing second on beam and third on vault and bars.
    In level 2 floor exercises, Angela Hutchinson-Lam placed third in the novice category, while Emma Crooks also came third in the tyro division.
