Miscellaneous FAQs
1. Do the monthly fees take into account school breaks?
Yes - monthly fees take into account the entire season - We follow the school calendar for Christmas and Spring Break, Statutory holidays, etc that fall on our work-out nights. Your program fees have been calculated to include these dates so no one is missing out on any work-outs. Please avoid making up missed practices without checking with your child’s coach and also informing our administrative staff as we need to know for emergency purposes if children who are not usually there on any given evening are present but not accountable for.
2. What about the $50 deposit?
If you submitted the $50 deposit with your registration, please deduct it from either your January of June Fees. Kindergym fees will be have to be adjusted for December and January, May or June to account for the deposit. The $50 is non-refundable if your child withdraws before the end of the session, and will be retained for administrative purposes.
3. What should my gymnast wear?
Gymnasts need to be comfortable and be able to move - so we recommend bare feet, no jewellery, long hair must be tied up. Shorts or tights and a non-baggy t-shirt is suitable attire. Many of the girls choose to wear a gymnastics bodysuit with a pair of shorts. We have these suits available from Hedy Pinter (club seamstress) on a regular basis at the gym.
4. Drop-off and Pick-up Policy
Every gymnast nine years and younger must be accompanied by an adult when dropped off to attend the Wings Gymnastics Program. The gymnast must not get dropped off in the parking lot, please accompany your son/daughter into the gymnasium.
When picking up any gymnast from the Wings Gymnastics Program the adult should meet the gymnast in the gymnasium or lobby. The gymnast should not wait alone in the parking lot, this is not a safe place! Coaches will ensure that gymnasts got picked up. Parents are encouraged to call the Wings cell phone at 778-996-9464 if they are more than a few minutes late to pick up a child; the administrator will make sure that the coach gets the message; the coach will wait with the child or make arrangements for adult supervision (possibly the Club administrator or Wings Board member or coach) until the parent arrives.
5. Bathroom Rules
Athletes nine years and younger must use the buddy system when leaving the gym to use the bathroom. Gymnasts in the Kindergym group need to be accompanied by their own parent/guardian, a coach, the club’s administrator or a board member (in this order of priority). Gymnasts are reminded to wear shoes when going to the bathroom. Kindergym parents are reminded to take their child to the bathroom prior to the class.
6. When are Parent Viewing Days?
Parent viewing days are during the last Tuesday and Thursday of the month; parents, relatives, friends and siblings are welcome to view from the South end of the gymnasium; they are not allowed on the floor and siblings must be kept off the equipment. These rules are re-enforced by any board member or the head coaches for the safety of our participants as well as the spectators. The Head Coach may give permission for exceptions to this rule, i.e. grandparents from out of town.
On special occasions (photo opportunity days) a coach may invite parents into the gymnasium. Parents and friends are always welcome during special events, such as Funastics and seasonal specials.
Please check in with the Head Coach or the Club Administrator before taking any photos or running a video machine. It is important that we monitor such activity for precautionary reasons.
7. Is there an Inclement Weather Policy?
Wings can not make the decision if it is safe for you to leave your home due to extreme weather conditions. As long as public transportation is running and Cameron Recreation Complex is open, Wings is likely to be on; however, we should we make the decision to cancel and this will be posted on our website, Facebook and Twitter sites.
8. What is our relationship with Gymnastics BC?
Wings is an affiliated member of Gymnastics BC, and all gymnasts are registered with this organization and all have Gymnastics BC insurance coverage from AllSport http://www.allsportinsurance.com/ which is paid in September and valid until August. This insurance is transferable between member clubs in the province as long as it is valid.
9. Are all Wings coaches fully-certified?
Yes - We keep our athletes safe by:
Ensuring that coaches are adequately certified through the National Coaching Certification Program
Maintaining and upgrading our equipment continuously
Promoting a positive and friendly work environment
Ensuring that every coach is adequately trained in first aid
Ensuring that emergency procedures are in place
Ensuring that emergency procedures are known by coaches, City staff, athletes, parents/guardians and administrative staff
